South Africa vs. Canada Prediction Markets: Pick & Probability

South Africa vs. Canada prediction markets are setting the stage for the first match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Knockout bracket on Sunday.

Both teams finished as runners-up in their respective groups and are competing for the right to face the winner of the Netherlands and Morocco. Although Canada is one of three North American host nations, it will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, its first time competing away from home in the competition.

World Cup prediction market data shows that Canada is expected to advance and further its best showing in its national history in the tournament. The standalone match will kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET and can be seen on FOX, FOX One, Telemundo, and Fubo.

South Africa vs. Canada Prediction Market Probabilities

Leasing operator Kalshi’s South Africa vs. Canada prediction market has the Canadians down for a 73% chance to advance to the Round of 16. South Africa, which is also in the Knockout for the first time in its history, only has a 27% chance of winning the match.

Market probabilities for a draw do not exist in the main market. If the game is tied after 90 minutes and stoppage time, two extra 15-minute periods will be played, and if the score is still level, a penalty shootout will ensue.

All that said, Kalshi is offering a “Regulation Time Moneyline” market, in which users can buy and sell contracts associated with outcomes after 90 minutes and stoppage time. Canada has a 60% chance of winning without any extra time, South Africa has a 17% chance, and there is a 27% likelihood the match needs to go to extra time.

South Africa Preview

The 2010 World Cup hosts escaped from Group A with four points, earned through a 1-0 victory over South Korea and a 1-1 draw with Czechia. They fell to Mexico in the first match of the entire tournament in Mexico City, 2-0, which is understandable.

Bafana Bafana was content to sit back and counter against South Korea, which was a sharp change from when it had 62% possession against Czechica. It traditionally uses a 4-2-3-1 built around tactical fluidity and presses high to win the ball back before recirculating possession with short passes around the midfield and defense.

Inexperience at this stage should be noticeable. South Africa is not familiar with making deep runs in international tournaments, most recently losing to Cameroon in the Round of 16 in the latest Africa Cup of Nations. It also doesn’t have a lot of top European pedigree on its roster.

Even still, the same could be said of Canada. This team already weathered the storm that was facing Mexico on opening day in Mexico, and it is unlikely to experience an environment as hostile as that during the rest of the competition.

Canada Preview

Canada finished as the Group B runner-up on the back of a 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina, a 6-0 win over Qatar, and a 2-1 loss to Switzerland.

All of Les Rouges World Cup performances left a different feeling than the others. They couldn’t impose their will against Bosnia-Herzegovina, despite being the better team; they throttled Qatar; and they created opportunities against a better Switzerland team, winning 1.66-1.11 on expected goals, but fell short on the final scoreline.

Manager Jesse Marsch wants his team to press high up the pitch and be extremely aggressive with its chances. Speed and bombing runs down the flanks are central to Canada’s attack, with opportunities eventually being funnelled toward striker Jonathan David.

Canada has not done anything to prove that it has the mental fortitude required to go on a run in this tournament, with the results against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Switzerland highlighting that. At the same time, their overall improvement in quality over the last decade is apparent, and they have a superior squad on paper.

Top South Africa vs. Canada Player Markets

Kalshi has a couple of player markets available for stars of each team.

Canada’s Jonathan Davi has a 38% chance of scoring, a 16% chance of assisting, and a 51% chance of scoring or assisting. South Africa’s Iqraam Rayners has a 16% probability of scoring, an 8% chance of assisting, and a 23% chance of providing a goal contribution.

South Africa vs. Canada Trade Handle Pick

As highlighted above, Canada has the better team, but Canada deserved more than it got in two of three matches in the World Cup already.

South Africa’s coach said that his team had already completed a successful trip to the World Cup just making the Knockout. Canada feels under much more pressure, and its high-octane style could just as easily send it out in flames as it could drape it in glory with a Round of 16 berth.

This goes against the grain, but South Africa’s ability to frustrate opponents, adapt its approach, and play without the weight of the world on its shoulders puts it in a position to make this interesting.
