Prediction markets are getting their own media platform with Eventual, which will provide news and analysis featuring the world’s top traders and markets.
An announcement released on Tuesday evening said that journalists, investors, founders, and policymakers will be featured twice weekly during live shows and daily news segments. Eventual was built to replace “niche blogs and Discord servers” and to platform insightful traders at Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood, and all relevant platforms.
Up and running
Eventual was funded by Alex Keeney, a former POLITICO journalist who took an early interest in prediction markets. His experience with the industry and connections will now be used to lead the new media company, which has a chance to capitalize on the sweeping nationwide momentum of prediction markets.
“Prediction markets are a powerful tool for understanding our future,” Keeney said. “But they need skilled humans to translate their insights.”
Eventual plans on supporting audio, video, written, and live content dedicated to prediction markets. This will extend beyond raw analysis and will make the industry more "relevant and entertaining” to its audience of traders and non-traders.
Followers can find both paid and free Substack newsletters, as well as daily articles on the platform’s Substack-powered website. Keeney hopes to add subscription packages for customers that include various products, such as a data and analytics center.
Polymarket was already announced as the platform’s launch sponsor and exclusive data partner. The platform raised funding from LightShed Ventures, Riverside Ventures, Juniper Ventures and BDG Media founder Bryan Goldberg, Keeney shared.
The expert contributors
Plans at launch are for Keeney to host both of the live weekly shows with the goal of eventually airing daily programs.
Eventual has already lined up a strong cast of contributors. The list of participants includes (and is not limited to):
- Domer: One of the world’s leading traders at prediction markets, with more than $400 million in lifetime trades.
- Brian “Prince Hal” Golden: A former journalist and screenwriter-turned-trader who gained game after he repeatedly outsmarted Wall Street with his inflation predictions.
- Caleb “Gaetan Dugas” Davies: A trader with more than $1 million in lifetime profit who has been featured in The New York Times and The Washington Post.
- Paul Krishnamurty: A UK-based professional gambler who was an early participant and authority in political betting, both as a consumer and an oddsmaker.
- Doug Campbell: PhD economist, founder of PolyTrader Pro and a longtime “whale.”
- William Kedjanyi: A UK-based journalist and analyst.
- Mick Bransfield: A leading expert on prediction market regulation.
Pratik Chougule —the Executive Director of the nonprofit Coalition for Political Forecasting — will serve as the director of written content. Eventual is expecting to add more contributors to its list in the near future.
Thoughts from the team
Eventual’s coverage will lift the veil on prediction markets, disrupting any gatekeeping that may have occurred without proper media attention.
"Even when markets miss, these people don't,” Keeney said of Eventual’s contributors. “They have a skill for thinking probabilistically and will help us deliver a product that is additive; one that is capable of sharpening the great work that journalists, academics, investors, and other domain experts are already doing.”
Eventual’s coverage on prediction markets could prove to be even more informative than typical news content, based on the industry’s reputation.
“Prediction markets have gotten it right when pollsters, pundits and so-called experts got it wrong, over and over,” added Richard Greenfield, General Partner at LightShed Ventures, an Eventual investor. “The traders making those calls are a new type of expert class and are among the sharpest forecasters in the world… Eventual makes them the centerpiece of a new kind of media business.”
The Trade Handle Prediction Markets Take
Eventual is trying to follow FiveThirtyEight, which redefined polling into a new form of news coverage. The new hub for prediction markets believes that it can capitalize on a similar opportunity as prediction markets continue to take hold across America.
