White House Sets Prediction Market Meeting

Prediction markets are getting another major moment in Washington. The White House is expected to host a gathering next Wednesday featuring executives from the prediction market and cryptocurrency industries, with traditional finance leaders also potentially joining the conversation. The meeting comes at a time when federally regulated event markets are becoming much harder for policymakers to ignore.

Details are still being finalized, including the guest list and whether President Donald Trump will attend. What we do know is that the timing is especially notable because the Commodity Futures Trading Commission will hold its own high-level industry meeting just one day later.

Prediction Markets Move Closer to Washington's Center

Prediction markets have spent the past year moving from a relatively niche financial product into a much more visible part of the broader market conversation. Trading volume has grown, major financial companies have entered the space, and platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket have become regular topics in Washington.

The White House gathering would put industry leaders directly in front of policymakers during a period when several big questions remain unresolved. Those include federal oversight, state challenges, market integrity, consumer protection, and how prediction markets fit alongside more traditional financial products.

While the final agenda hasn't been made public, the meeting itself is significant. Getting prediction market executives into the White House puts the industry in a very different position than it occupied only a short time ago.

The CFTC Gets its Turn One Day Later

The Washington conversation won't end when the White House meeting does. The following day, the CFTC is scheduled to convene its Innovation Advisory Committee, bringing together executives from prediction markets, crypto, finance, and other industries.

That committee includes several familiar names across the sector. Executives associated with Polymarket, Kalshi, Coinbase, CME Group, Nasdaq, DraftKings, and FanDuel are among the participants expected to help advise the regulator on emerging technology and market structure.

The back-to-back meetings mean industry leaders could spend two straight days discussing many of the same major themes:

  • Prediction market regulation
  • Financial-market innovation
  • Cryptocurrency policy
  • Market structure
  • Consumer protections
  • Emerging trading technology

For anyone following prediction markets, that is a pretty packed Washington schedule.

Federal Support Meets State Resistance

The meetings also come as prediction markets continue to face a very different reception from some state governments. Federal regulators have generally taken a more welcoming approach toward event contracts, while several states continue arguing that sports-related markets should fall under their own laws.

That tension remains one of the industry's biggest unresolved issues. Prediction market operators maintain that federally regulated event contracts belong under the CFTC framework, while state officials continue challenging that argument in court.

The White House meeting won't settle those legal disputes. Still, it gives prediction market companies another opportunity to explain their model directly to federal policymakers while those cases continue moving through the courts.

Crypto Policy Will Share the Spotlight

Prediction markets won't be the only subject in the room. Cryptocurrency executives are also expected to participate as Washington continues debating the future structure of digital-asset regulation.

The meeting comes while the Clarity Act remains under consideration in the Senate. Lawmakers are expected to revisit the legislation after returning from their August recess, meaning next week's conversations could happen just before another significant round of federal financial-policy debate.

The Trade Handle Prediction Markets Take

The most important takeaway is where prediction markets are being discussed now. This isn't a side conversation happening at a small industry conference. Executives are heading to the White House, followed immediately by a CFTC committee packed with some of the biggest names in finance and technology.

That doesn't mean every regulatory question has suddenly been solved, far from it. State lawsuits, market-integrity concerns, and questions about federal authority are still very real. What has changed is the industry's seat at the table. Prediction markets are increasingly being discussed alongside crypto, exchanges, brokerages, and traditional financial infrastructure. The more that happens, the harder it becomes to treat event markets as a temporary experiment rather than an emerging part of the financial system.
