Kalshi Gains Access to 14 Million Accounts with Alpaca Deal

Kalshi just extended its global reach. The rising prediction market giant recently agreed to a new partnership with Alpaca, an industry leader in brokerage infrastructure.

The deal puts over 14 million brokerage accounts in Kalshi’s crosshairs, while the move allows Alpaca to offer its customer base access to Kalshi’s event contracts.

Kalshi & Alpaca Partnership Eyes Global Expansion

Alpaca isn’t a small-time player. The company already caters to 14 million accounts throughout the world, while their financial footprint stretches across 40 different countries.

As big as they are, however, Alpaca couldn’t offer their clients what Kalshi brings to the table. Or even if it could, doing a deal with a huge prediction market platform that’s already established trumped trying to build their own.

Kalshi instantly rounds out Alpaca’s offerings, allowing their customers to access event market contracts by proxy. Kalshi, meanwhile, benefits from an expanded reach, while embedding their product within an already established investing platform.

Why Does This Deal Matter?

This partnership is huge for both sides. Alpaca is not a consumer trading app; they are a brokerage infrastructure and API company that allows other companies to create investing products.

Doing a deal with Kalshi allows them to keep their client base focused on what they already bring to the table, while appeasing any potential event trading needs. It signals the continued belief that existing financial and investment firms may look to big prediction market platforms to broaden their horizons.

Kalshi, meanwhile, gets access to the exact type of people they want to market their contracts to. This grows the brand globally, taps into a massive user base that aligns with their intent as a company, and boosts overall trade volume for the platform.

More than any of this, though, is the visible alignment between prediction markets and tangible financial investment entities such as stocks, crypto, and other assets that further distance Kalshi from the gambling sphere.

Kalshi’s Bigger Opportunity: Distribution

This partnership kills several birds with one stone for Kalshi, but an underrated aspect is distribution.

Kalshi’s instant access to over 14 million accounts is going to grab headlines, but moves like this put less pressure on turning Kalshi into the ultimate destination. Rather, partnerships act as a bridge, with Kalshi establishing ports that open up back-and-forth traffic between its trade markets and other institution’s client bases.

The deal also grants Kalshi access to over 300 financial institutions, which could set the prediction market platform up for further extension. Even better, it can change the name of the game, making it far less about Kalshi’s marketing and promotion, and more about the channels they create to funnel action to their event markets.

The Trade Handle Prediction Markets Take

Kalshi remains as aggressive as anyone in the prediction market industry, and expansion appears to be at the forefront of their plans.

A big deal like this does two things at once; it increases legitimacy by tying prediction markets to reputable financial institutions, while it also casts a wider net for customer acquisition pathing.

Not only does Kalshi attach itself to a known brokerage firm, but they tap into a massive user base and make it easier to pump volume into their trade markets.

Kalshi still has legal and regulatory concerns, but with moves like this, expansion, branding, and reach are far from weak links. The clear desire of Kalshi is to be available to everyone and everywhere, and they’re setting up a foundation that will be hard to tear down.
