Polymarket is adding another layer to its U.S. prediction market platform, but this launch isn't about giving traders another market to trade. The company rolled out a collection of user-protection tools Wednesday, including voluntary deposit limits, self-exclusion options, and access to behavioral health resources.
The update also includes a new Trust & Safety Center that puts Polymarket's rules and protection policies in one place. The changes arrive as the platform's user base grows and questions around consumer protection become a bigger part of the wider prediction market conversation.
Traders Can Put Their Own Limits in Place
One of the biggest changes gives U.S. traders more control over how much money they can deposit. Users can now establish daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limits based on what works for them.
Polymarket also added friction to changing those settings. Lowering a deposit limit takes effect immediately, while increasing or removing one triggers a mandatory cooling-off period. That prevents someone from setting a limit and then immediately overriding it.
The new tools include:
- Daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits
- Voluntary 30-day self-exclusion
- Voluntary one-year self-exclusion
- Lifetime self-exclusion
- A cooling-off period for increasing deposit limits
- Behavioral health and treatment resources
Self-Exclusion Can Last a Lifetime
Deposit limits aren't the only option for users who want to step away. Polymarket now lets traders voluntarily lock themselves out of the platform for 30 days, one year, or permanently.
The company has also partnered with behavioral health provider Birches Health. Its telehealth services are available across all 50 states and include clinical assessments and customized recovery plans for people dealing with compulsive trading behavior. Polymarket and Birches have also created a Trading Responsibly guide for users.
Trust and Safety Goes Beyond Trading
Polymarket is widening its approach beyond account controls. The company is expanding its Trust and Safety team while introducing updated community guidelines and content moderation standards. Those rules span comments, market chats, user profiles, Squads, and Polymarket's Discord community.
That's becoming more relevant as Polymarket adds social features that encourage users to interact rather than simply open the app, trade a contract, and leave. The new Trust & Safety Center will serve as the central place for information about those policies. It also covers user protections, market integrity, and other risk-management initiatives.
Growth Brings a Different Set of Responsibilities
The timing here is hard to ignore. Prediction markets have grown quickly, and platforms are increasingly offering products that resolve faster and give traders more opportunities to participate throughout the day.
Polymarket itself recently launched 15-minute Bitcoin markets that resolve around the clock. Features like that create a very different experience from an election contract that might remain open for months.
More frequent trading creates more opportunities for engagement, but it also makes tools that let users control that engagement increasingly important. Polymarket Global Head of Trust and Safety Malea Otranto described the current protections as a baseline, suggesting the company plans to keep building on them.
The Trade Handle Prediction Markets Take
We've spent plenty of time watching prediction markets compete over new contracts, features, and partnerships. User protections are another area where that competition could ultimately benefit the industry. Polymarket is effectively setting a standard with deposit limits, self-exclusion, behavioral health resources, and a dedicated Trust & Safety Center.
Other platforms don't necessarily have to copy every feature exactly, but traders can now compare what protections different exchanges provide. As prediction markets become bigger and faster, responsible trading tools can't feel like an afterthought. Building the market is one part of becoming mainstream. Building protections around it is another.
