Korea Republic vs. Czechia prediction markets are predicting a tight match in what will be the second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup’s opening day on Thursday evening.
Both teams are competing in Group A, alongside Mexico and South Africa, for a spot in the Knockout. Neither is renowned as a world power, although there is talent on both sides, and the odds are that at least one of the two will make it out of the Group Stage.
The 10:00 p.m. Eastern match at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico, will be broadcast on FS1 and Telemundo and streamed on Peacock and Fubo.
Korea Republic vs. Czechia Prediction Market Probabilities
Prediction industry leader Kalshi’s data shows that Korea Republic has a 37% chance of winning. Czechia has a 34% chance, and there is a 31% likelihood of a draw.
Korea Republic has maintained a slight lead over Czechia in prediction markets and probabilities since the beginning of June. Czechia never fell below 32% probability, while Korea never climbed higher than 38%. There was also virtually no movement over the last 24 hours, despite more than $670,000 in trading volume since the market opened.
Being that this match will be both teams’ first in the World Cup, it’s too early for the result to determine the final group standings. Korea also has a 69% chance of reaching the Group Stage, while Czechia has a 67% chance, according to data from the “Group A Qualifiers” prediction markets.
Even still, the difference between zero, one, and three points is enormous when teams only get to play three games before either advancing or being eliminated. One lapse of concentration can be the difference between having a real shot in the Knockout or having heads hang in shame until the World Cup in 2030.
Korea Republic Preview
Korea finished its World Cup preparation by beating El Salvador 1-0 last Wednesday. The team won five of its last seven matches, with the two missing results being 4-0 and 1-0 losses to Ivory Coast and Austria, respectively.
Veteran Son Heung-Min isn’t dominating European competition like he once was, but he’s still viewed as his country’s best player and leader heading into the tournament. Kim Mine-Jae, Lee Kang-In, and Lee Jae-Sung add more European experience to the squad, which regularly plays a cohesive brand of soccer on the global stage.
The team likes to sit and defend before launching onto the offensive with its potent counterattacks. It relies on quick-hitting chances, but can be tough to break down because of its willingness to defend.
Czechia Preview
Czechia beat Guatemala last Thursday, 3-1, and is riding a six-match winning streak. Its consistent winning form coincided with not scoring more than two goals in a game against every country not named Gibraltar since last March, until the win one week ago.
Patrik Schick and Tomáš Souček are the leaders of the Czech squad. Souček was the captain but had his role stripped after he told his teammates not to applaud traveling fans who booed their team during a 6-0 win against Gibraltar, while Shick is a consistent goal-scorer who finished as the joint-top-finisher at the 2020 European Championship.
Czechia likes to sit and defend in a deep block, grinding out results with physicality while keeping their defensive solidarity at the front of mind. That could lead to a cagey match against Korea, given its reliance on the counter-attack and catching teams out.
Korea Republic vs. Czechia Trade Handle Pick
Mexico and South Africa’s tournament kick-off in the afternoon will whet the appetite of World Cup fans, just in time for the second of two Group A matches.
Korea Republic vs. Czechia prediction markets suggest that the three possible outcomes — a Korea Republic win, a Czechia win, and a draw — are all just about as likely as each other. The Trade Handle team likes the option of a draw the best, given that both teams are primarily described by how they build off of their defensive structure.
A single goal could unravel this pick, once again, since both teams are defensively sound. While Son, Schick, and others are legitimate goal-scorers, this has the makings of a goalless tie, in this writer’s opinion.
